ANSE LOUIS
A small, secluded west-coast beach near Baie Lazare, framed by granite and set against glorious sunsets. Quiet, upscale and easy to swim, one of Mahé’s more discreet pleasures.
A discreet western cove
Anse Louis is a small, pretty beach on the west coast of Mahe, tucked into the Baie Lazare corner where the coastline breaks into a series of intimate granite-framed coves. It is best known as the setting for one of the island’s most exclusive resorts, and that gives the whole bay a calm, private and rather polished feel, but the beach itself, like all Seychelles beaches, is open to everyone.
The sand is pale and soft, the boulders are beautifully sculpted, and the west-facing aspect means it looks straight out to some of the finest sunsets on the island. It is a quiet, low-key spot rather than a busy resort strip.
Swimming and sunsets
The bay is reasonably sheltered and the water is clear, so on calm days it offers pleasant, easy swimming close to shore. As with the whole west coast, conditions turn over with the seasons, so read the sea before you go in, but for much of the year this is a gentle and inviting little beach. It suits an afternoon of quiet swimming and a stay for the sunset.
It sits within easy reach of the string of famous beaches around Baie Lazare and Anse Soleil, so it makes a lovely, calm addition to a day exploring the beautiful south-west.

★★★Stopped here two times to give the beach a chance and just didn’t really fall in love with it. There is a nice small parking lot at the end of the beach. The water is rough, and it was a bit seaweedy in May. Didn’t reall…

★★★★★I was there at 8:30am and was the only one (other than the safeguard). Beach looks lovely, there is parking by the beach. I haven’t been in for a swim though as only stopped to have a look when passing by so can not tell…

★★★★Lots of mosquitoes on this beach, but worth it for a nice sunset. I would not recommend for swimming due to strong currents.
