Takamaka Rum Distillery
The home of Seychelles’ signature rum. The Trois Frères Distillery sits on the historic La Plaine St André estate, where a tour and a tasting tell the story of island rum from cane to bottle.
The rum that became a national name
Takamaka is the rum of Seychelles. Founded in the early 2000s by two brothers who wanted to build a genuine island spirit, it grew from a small local venture into a brand you now find behind almost every bar in the country and on shelves well beyond it. The name comes from the takamaka tree that lines so many island beaches, and the rum has become part of the modern identity of the place.
The distillery makes its rums on the grounds of La Plaine St Andre, one of the oldest estates in Seychelles, which ties the drink to the islands’ long plantation history with cane and sugar. That mix of an old Creole house and a working modern distillery is a large part of the appeal of a visit.
The tour and the tasting
A visit walks you through how the rum is made, from the raw spirit to the aged and spiced expressions, in an easygoing and welcoming way rather than a stiff corporate presentation. The heart of it for most visitors is the tasting, a chance to try the range from the clean white rum to the darker aged and spiced bottles and to find the one you actually like.
Because the distillery shares the estate with the historic house and its Creole restaurant, a tour slots perfectly into a longer, lazy visit. Taste the rum, learn its story, eat well under the old timber roof and leave with a bottle that carries the trip home far better than a fridge magnet.

Do the tasting before you decide what to buy. The range runs from a clean white rum to darker aged and spiced bottles, and trying them side by side is the best way to pick the one you will actually enjoy at home.
