ANSE PORT GLAUD
A calm, scenic lagoon beach on the green west coast of Mahé, beside a waterfall and a marine park. One of the gentlest, most photogenic corners of the quiet west.
The gentle west
Anse Port Glaud lies on the lush north-west coast of Mahe, in the greenest and least developed part of the island. Sheltered and shallow, its lagoon is calm and clear for much of the year, an easy, family-friendly place to swim after the wilder beaches of the south. Palms lean over pale sand, the water glows turquoise, and the whole setting has the soft, unhurried beauty of this quiet coast.
What makes it special is the company it keeps. The Sauzier Waterfall tumbles down just inland, the protected waters of Port Launay marine park sit close by, and the little island of Therese lies offshore. Few beaches pack so much scenery into such a gentle, accessible spot.
Swimming and setting
The sheltered lagoon makes for calm, easy swimming, and on settled days the clear water is pleasant for a gentle snorkel near the rocks. It is a relaxed, local-feeling beach rather than a resort strip, so come prepared and enjoy the peace.
Its position on the scenic west coast, close to the waterfall and the marine park, makes it a natural stop on a day exploring this beautiful, watery side of the island.
