10 Best Walks and Hikes in Seychelles

Seychelles is unusually good for hiking. The granite mountains in the centre of Mahé give real altitude, the trails are well-signposted, and you often share them with the endemic flora and a few birds. Bring water, start early, and watch the heat.

1. Anse Major trail (Mahé)

1 hour each way. Coastal trail from Bel Ombre over granite to a hidden cove. The classic Seychelles “earned beach” hike.

2. Copolia (Mahé)

45 minutes each way. Steep climb from Sans Souci road to a granite slab at 500m with views east over Victoria and west to Conception. Best in dry season, slick when wet.

3. Trois Frères (Mahé)

2.5–3 hours each way. The big central Mahé hike. The three granite peaks above Victoria. Best central viewpoint on the island.

4. Morne Blanc (Mahé)

1 hour each way. Trail through Morne Seychellois National Park to a granite outcrop with sea views and endemic pitcher plants.

5. Grand Anse to Anse Cocos (La Digue)

1 hour each way from the south end of the road. Coastal path through palms and granite, ending at one of La Digue’s quietest beaches.

6. Vallée de Mai trails (Praslin)

Three signposted loops of 1–2 hours each through the UNESCO-listed coco de mer forest. Shaded, cool, easy underfoot. Take the ranger-led 9am or 11am tour.

7. Anse Major beyond (Mahé)

The trail continues past Anse Major to Cap Ternay if you have the legs. Add 2 hours each way. Coastal, exposed, dramatic.

8. L’Union Estate to Grand Anse (La Digue)

45 minutes through the plantation and the south of the island. Passes the original colonial cemetery and the copra mill.

9. Glacis to Anse Etoile (Mahé)

1.5 hours. Coastal walk on Mahé’s north tip from the Glacis viewpoint down to Anse Etoile. Granite, ocean cliff, small coves.

10. Conception Island circuit

By boat from Mahé’s west coast. A half-day walk around the uninhabited Conception Island. Snorkel breaks throughout. Boat needed.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a guide for these hikes?

Anse Major, Copolia, Morne Blanc and the Vallée de Mai loops are well-signposted and safe solo. Trois Frères and Conception benefit from a guide. Morne Seychellois NP visitor centre books guides.

Best time of day to hike?

Start by 7–8am. Trails on the exposed coast (Anse Major, Glacis) get brutal mid-afternoon. Forest trails (Vallée de Mai, Morne Blanc) stay comfortable all day.

Are there dangerous animals?

No snakes, no large mammals, no problem insects. The only real risk is dehydration and heat.
