ANSE GLACIS
A quiet local beach at the northern tip of Mahé, in the scenic Glacis district. Big granite, a village feel and a low-key corner of the island away from the crowds.
The scenic north
Anse Glacis lies in the Glacis district at the northern end of Mahe, a stretch of coast famous for its dramatic granite and its winding, view-rich road. This is a quiet, residential corner rather than a resort strip, and the beach has the easy, local feel of the north, with big boulders framing the sand and green hills rising behind.
It is the kind of place travellers stumble on while exploring the scenic northern loop, and it makes a peaceful stop away from the busier bays around Beau Vallon just to the south.
Swimming and setting
As a northern beach it is at its best on calm days, when the water is clear and pleasant for a swim, though it can pick up swell and current when the sea is up, so read the conditions before going in. There is little in the way of facilities, so come prepared and enjoy the quiet and the scenery.
It sits within easy reach of Beau Vallon, Victoria and the string of little beaches around the top of the island, so it fits naturally into a drive around the north.
