ANSE GOUVERNEMENT (MAHÉ)
A small, secluded beach on the south-west of Mahé that stays wonderfully quiet. Little known, lightly visited and framed by granite and green, it is a find for anyone who likes a beach to themselves.
Shallow, tree-lined bay for swimming & snorkeling, with a small sandy beach & nearby restaurant.
A beach few people find
Anse Gouvernement is one of those small Mahe beaches that reward a little curiosity. Tucked along the south-west coast away from the busy names, it sees few visitors, and much of the time you can have its sand and clear water close to yourself. For travellers who measure a beach by its peace as much as its looks, that solitude is the whole point.
The cove has the classic ingredients of the island’s quieter beaches, pale sand, warm shallow water near the shore, granite boulders at the edges and thick greenery behind. It is small in scale and gentle in mood, a place to swim, read and do very little.
Getting the most from it
With few or no facilities here, come self-sufficient with water, shade and anything you want to eat, and take everything back out with you. As with all the more open stretches of coast, keep an eye on the sea and swim with care when there is any swell. The reward for a little effort and a little self-reliance is a beach that feels genuinely your own.

★★★★★Beautiful beach, but you can only access it through the hotel. We wrote an email and enjoyed the lovely view and a beer.

Quiet coves like this are the joy of touring the south-west coast slowly, one beach at a time. A guided south tour reaches the hidden corners, and staying on Mahe lets you explore them without a rush.

Come prepared and come early. There is little or nothing here in the way of facilities, so bring your own water and shade, and the reward is a lovely little beach with barely another soul on it.
