Anse Cocos is the third of La Digue’s southern beaches (after Grand Anse and Petite Anse), reachable only on foot from the south end of the island’s road. The walk takes 30 minutes through palms and over granite. The reward is a granite-walled bay with tidal lagoons that fill at high tide — kid-safe wading, often empty.
There is nothing on Anse Cocos: no restaurant, no shop, no facilities. Bring water and snacks. The bay is best in trade-wind season (May–October); the south-east swell can make it dangerous to swim outside the lagoons in big surf.
Best for
Hikers, photographers, anyone willing to walk for an empty beach.
When to go
May–October calmest. November–April for surf-watching, but be cautious about swimming.
How to get there
Cycle to the south end of La Digue’s road (Grand Anse). Walk south through Petite Anse to Anse Cocos. 1 hour total each way.
What’s nearby
Petite Anse (15 min back), Grand Anse (30 min back). All three pair into one half-day cycle-and-walk loop.
