A tiny, hidden beach on the wild south of La Digue, reached on foot beyond Grand Anse. A quiet, granite-framed pocket of sand for those willing to walk that little bit further.
A reward for walkers
Anse Bonnet Carre is a small, secluded beach tucked along the wild south-eastern coast of La Digue, reached on foot by continuing past Grand Anse and Petite Anse. It is one of those little pockets of paradise that most day-trippers never see, precisely because it takes a walk to get there, and the reward is real seclusion, pale sand cupped between granite headlands with the open ocean beyond.
The setting is classic wild La Digue, dramatic, empty and quietly beautiful, and on the walk out you string together some of the finest beaches on the island one after another.
Wild and unspoilt
Like its neighbours on this exposed coast, Anse Bonnet Carre faces the open sea, so surf and currents can be strong and swimming is best treated with real caution, particularly in the trade wind season. Come for the solitude, the scenery and the sense of discovery rather than for a gentle swim, and bring everything you need, as there are no facilities out here.
It makes a perfect quiet turnaround point on a walk along La Digue’s untamed eastern shore.
