Where La Digue begins
Anse Réunion is the beach you meet first on La Digue, a long strip of sand running south along the west coast from the jetty and the village at La Passe. Because it sits where the ferry lands and where many of the island’s guesthouses cluster, it is the most convenient beach on La Digue by far.
It faces west across the channel towards Praslin, sheltered from the main ocean swell, so the water is generally calm and easy. Bicycles roll along the coastal path beside it, and the beach slips into daily island life rather than being a destination you set out for.
Calm swimming and sunsets
The gentle, shallow water makes Anse Réunion an easy everyday swim, and the reef offshore gives some casual snorkelling. Its west-facing line also means proper sunsets over the water towards Praslin, a fine way to end a day of cycling around the island.
Being the populated side, it has more life around it than La Digue’s wild beaches, with guesthouses, shops and eateries in easy reach. It is the practical, pleasant base beach, and the launch point for rides out to the famous coves further round the coast.
