SUNSET BEACH
A small, pretty cove among the granite at Glacis on the north tip of Mahé, known for exactly what the name promises. Calm swimming and a fine place to watch the day end.
Intimate beach retreat offering shallow waters & small waves for swimmers & snorkelers.
A cove on the north tip
Sunset Beach is a compact stretch of sand tucked into the granite at Glacis, near the northern end of Mahé. It takes its name from its west-leaning outlook, which makes it one of the better places on this side of the island to be as the sun drops into the sea.
The setting is classic north-coast Seychelles, big smooth boulders framing soft sand and clear, sheltered water. It is small and can feel almost private outside busy hours, a quieter alternative to the long sweep of Beau Vallon just to the south.
Calm water and the evening light
Being tucked in and sheltered, the water here is usually gentle, pleasant for swimming and for easy snorkelling around the rocks, where the clear shallows hold plenty of small fish. It is the kind of cove where you settle in for a few unhurried hours rather than pass through.
The name sets the plan, so time a visit for late afternoon, bring something to drink, and stay for the sunset. A small resort sits above the cove, but the beach keeps the simple pleasures of sand, rock and a good view west.

Come for the last two hours of daylight. The cove is small and faces the setting sun, so it is at its best at golden hour, and the water is usually calm enough for a relaxed swim first.
