Acajou sits directly on Anse Volbert, the long, calm, swimmable bay locals call Côte d’Or, the liveliest and most convenient beach on Praslin. Step off the terrace and you are on the sand, with the water shallow and clear for a long way out and the little islet of Chauve Souris floating just offshore.
The style is warm and unfussy rather than glossy. Rooms are finished in dark local mahogany, the acajou that gives the resort its name, and the whole place has the feel of a comfortable Creole beach house rather than a chain hotel.
A good base for the island
Côte d’Or is the natural base for exploring Praslin. The Vallée de Mai is a short drive inland, Anse Lazio is over the hill to the north, and boats to Curieuse, St Pierre and La Digue leave from nearby. Restaurants, a dive centre and a handful of shops are all within a stroll along the bay.
It suits couples and families who want the beach on their doorstep and the island’s sights within easy reach, without paying five-star prices for the privilege.
