ALPHONSE ISLAND
A remote coral island in the far-flung Alphonse group, a byword among fly-fishers and divers. One small eco-resort, endless flats and reef, and about as far from everywhere as the Seychelles gets.
A fishing and diving legend
Alphonse lies far to the south-west of Mahé, reached by a scheduled flight, a classic coral atoll of white sand, turquoise flats and reef. It is famous the world over among fly-fishers for its bonefish and giant trevally, and among divers for its walls and clear water.
There is a single, low-key eco-resort on the island, built around the ocean rather than luxury for its own sake. Bungalows and villas sit back among the palms, and the days revolve around the water and the tides.
Barefoot, remote and unhurried
Life here is barefoot and simple, geared to fishing, diving, snorkelling and the slow rhythm of a remote island. Conservation is taken seriously, with turtles, seabirds and the surrounding flats carefully protected.
It suits anglers, divers and travellers chasing genuine remoteness and nature, happy to trade nightlife and gloss for one of the great wilderness islands of the Indian Ocean.
