Desroches lies in the far-flung Amirantes group, about 230 kilometres south-west of Mahé and reached by a scheduled flight. The Four Seasons is the only resort on the island, which means its fourteen kilometres of beach, its reefs and its interior of palms and tortoise trails feel almost entirely private.
The pace is barefoot and unhurried. Villas and residences sit low along the sand, bicycles are the way to get around, and the ocean, famous among divers for its walls and channels, is the whole point.
