NORTH EAST POINT
A quiet local beach at the northern tip of Mahé, well beyond the crowds of Beau Vallon. Big granite boulders, a village feel and the everyday rhythm of island life away from the resorts.
The far north
North East Point is the beach and the little community at the northern end of Mahe, past Glacis and the busier bays around Beau Vallon. It is a real village by the sea rather than a tourist beach, and that ordinary, unhurried quality is exactly what draws travellers who want to see how islanders actually live. The coast here is scattered with the big smooth granite boulders that define northern Mahe, and the mood is calm and local.
Because it sits at the top of the island, it catches the open sea, and the beach has a wilder, more exposed character than the sheltered swimming bays. It is a place to walk, to watch the fishing boats and to feel the quiet end of the island.
Swimming and the setting
On calm days the water is clear and pleasant, but as a north-facing shore it can pick up swell and current when the sea is up, so judge the conditions before you swim and take care further out. There is little in the way of tourist facilities, which is part of the appeal, so come prepared and enjoy the space.
It sits an easy drive from Beau Vallon and Victoria, making it a simple detour when you want to trade the busy beaches for somewhere the island still feels like itself.

★★★★★Nice beach. With rocks at the left side. The waves are rather high, so it is not safe for swimming but great for sunbathing.

★★★★★Lovely quiet beach right next to main road. Has some rocks and old coral and sand is pristine, saw a little guy coming along with his broom sweeping. No facilities but this place is great for a picnic and to escape the crowds

Check the sea before swimming. This is a wild, north-facing local beach, wonderful for a quiet walk and a look at village life, but it can pick up surf, so it rewards a calm day and a little caution.
